About Checkers
Checkers, also known as draughts, is a two-player strategy game on an 8x8 board. Each side starts with pieces on the dark squares and tries to capture every enemy piece or leave the opponent with no legal move. Captures are compulsory, which makes every turn a small puzzle.
In GameHub you play red and move first. Choose Easy, Medium or Hard against the computer, or switch to two players and pass the phone around. Pieces slide and fade as they are captured, legal moves are highlighted, and an unfinished game is saved so you can pick it up later.
How to play
Tap one of your red pieces to select it. Only pieces that can legally move can be selected.
Tap a highlighted square to move there. Men move diagonally forward one square onto the dark squares.
Jump over an enemy piece to capture it. If a capture is available you must take it, and a multi-jump must be finished in the same turn.
Reach the far row with a man to crown it as a king. A king can move and capture both forwards and backwards, but one square at a time.
Win by capturing all enemy pieces or leaving your opponent with no legal move.
What you get
Pick Easy, Medium or Hard. Hard always plays its best move and looks furthest ahead.
Switch to two players mode and take turns as red and black on the same device.
Take back your last move, and the computer's reply with it, when you spot a mistake.
Ask for a suggested move up to three times in each game when you are stuck.
Selectable pieces and legal landing squares are shown, and a must capture notice appears.
Unfinished games are saved, and your won, lost and drawn totals are kept for each level.

Pro tips
- Keep your back row pieces at home as long as you can to stop the opponent from getting a king.
- Control the center of the board. Pieces there have more options and are harder to trap.
- Because captures are forced, you can sacrifice one piece to pull an enemy piece into a position where you win two.
- Move in groups so every piece is protected by a friend behind it that can recapture.
- Use the hint button on tricky turns, but remember you only get three per game.

Frequently asked questions
Is checkers in GameHub free?
Yes. GameHub is a free Android download and checkers is included. You can play against the computer at three levels or with a friend on the same phone.
Do you have to capture in checkers?
Yes. In this game captures are compulsory. If any jump is available you must take one, and if a piece can keep jumping it must finish the whole multi-jump in the same turn.
How do I get a king?
Move one of your men all the way to the far row of the board. It is crowned a king and its turn ends there. Kings can move and capture both forwards and backwards.
Can I play checkers with a friend on one phone?
Yes. Choose the two players option from the menu and take turns on the same device. Red moves first. There is no online mode for checkers.
Can the game end in a draw?
Yes. If 40 moves by each side pass without a capture or a man moving forward, the game is declared a draw. A draw is shown as its own result and counted in your record.
