How to use Password Generator

  1. Set the length with the slider (16 or more is recommended).
  2. Choose which character types to include.
  3. Press Copy, then save it in a password manager.

What makes a password strong

Strength comes from unpredictability. A random 16-character password drawn from letters, numbers and symbols has roughly 100 bits of entropy, which would take longer than the age of the universe to guess by brute force with current technology. Human-chosen passwords like “Summer2026!” are far weaker because attackers try common patterns first.

Good password habits

  • Use a password manager so you only remember one strong master password.
  • Make every password unique.
  • Turn on two-factor authentication wherever it is offered.
  • Avoid personal details such as names or birthdays.
  • Change a password immediately if a service reports a breach.

How this generator works

Each character is picked using the browser’s secure random number generator, with a technique that removes modulo bias so every character is equally likely. The generator also guarantees at least one character from each selected type, then shuffles the result. If a site rejects certain symbols, untick Symbols or use a longer length for the same strength.

Why use this password generator tool

  • Cryptographically random. Uses crypto.getRandomValues with unbiased selection.
  • Strength meter. Shows entropy in bits.
  • Avoid look-alikes. Skip characters like O, 0, l and 1.
  • Never transmitted. Generated locally; we never see your passwords.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a password be?

At least 12–16 characters for ordinary accounts, and 20 or more for important ones such as email or banking. Length matters more than complexity.

Is it safe to generate passwords online?

Here, yes: generation happens in your browser using its secure random generator, and the password is never sent anywhere. Still, store it in a password manager straight away.

Should I use the same password twice?

Never. If one site is breached, attackers try the same password everywhere else. Use a unique password per account.
