Random Name Picker Wheel

Add names, one per line, and spin the wheel. A winner is chosen with cryptographic randomness before the animation starts, so the outcome is always fair.

How to use Random Name Picker Wheel

  1. Type or paste names into the box, one per line.
  2. Optionally tick Remove the winner so each person can only win once.
  3. Press Spin the wheel and wait for the pointer at the top to settle.
  4. Read the winner underneath, and use the history list to see earlier results.

When a picker wheel helps

Teachers use a name wheel to call on students without seeming to play favourites. Teams use it to choose who presents first, who takes meeting notes or who buys coffee. Streamers and small businesses use it for giveaways because viewers can watch the wheel and trust the process.

A visible random choice avoids arguments. Nobody can claim the organiser chose a friend when the pointer lands where it lands.

Getting the best results

  • Remove blank lines and duplicate entries unless you intend extra odds.
  • Use short names or first names so labels fit the slices.
  • For a one-prize draw, leave the winner in the list so the result stands.
  • For several prizes, tick Remove the winner and spin once per prize.
  • Screen-share the wheel during live events so everyone sees the draw.

How it works and what to know

When you press Spin, the page draws a random index from your list, then calculates how far the wheel must rotate for that slice to end under the pointer. A little random offset inside the slice makes the stop look natural. The animation slows gradually and finishes after a few seconds.

Winners are only stored in the page while it is open. If you refresh, the list and history are cleared, so copy your list somewhere safe if you need it again. For legally regulated prize draws, check the rules in your area, since some require specific procedures or records.

Fairness, accessibility and limits

Spinning wheels are as much theatre as selection, which is why this one decides the result with a proper random draw before any animation begins. People who prefer less motion, or whose devices request it, get an instant result instead of a spin. The wheel is a canvas image, so the winner is also written out in text underneath for screen readers.

The picker works with whatever you type, so it cannot check for duplicates, spelling or eligibility. Review your list before drawing, and decide in advance how you will handle a winner who is absent, for example by spinning again with that person removed.

Why use this random name picker wheel tool

  • Fair selection. The winner is picked with unbiased cryptographic randomness. The animation only reveals the result.
  • Remove after winning. Draw several different people in a row without repeats.
  • Respects motion settings. If your device asks for reduced motion, the wheel skips the spin and shows the result immediately.
  • Runs privately. Your list never leaves your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Is the wheel really fair?

Yes. The winner is chosen first by an unbiased random draw, then the wheel is animated to land on that person. Wheel position, spin speed and the length of names do not change anyone’s chance.

How many names can I add?

Up to 300 names are placed on the wheel. Labels are shown for up to 60 names; above that the slices become too thin to read, but the winner is still announced in text.

Can I give some people better odds?

Add a name more than once to give that person extra slices. Each line counts as one entry.
