Video Trimmer
Cut the start and end off a video, or keep just the part you want. Load a video, set the start and end with the sliders or exact times, preview the selection and download the trimmed clip as MP4 or WebM. It runs in your browser, so your video is never uploaded.

How to use Video Trimmer
- Choose a video file such as MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV. A preview player appears.
- Drag the Start and End sliders, or type exact times. Use Use current time to take the time from the player.
- Press Play selection to check the cut, and choose MP4 or WebM and whether to make a precise cut.
- Press Trim and download. A progress bar shows while the video is processed.
How trimming works
The tool reads your video file in your browser and writes a new file containing only the part between your start and end times. In a precise cut it decodes the frames and encodes them again, which lets the clip begin exactly where you chose. In a fast cut it copies the existing compressed data, so there is no quality loss.
Video is stored as key frames and the frames in between. A fast cut can only start on a key frame, so the clip may begin a little earlier than you asked.
Tips for clean cuts
- Use Play selection to check both ends before you export.
- Pick a point where there is no movement or speech for a cleaner start and end.
- Use Precise cut if the exact start time matters.
- Use the fast option for long videos when a small difference in the start does not matter.
- Keep your original file. The trimmed clip is a new file.
Formats, size and speed
MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio plays almost everywhere. WebM is common on the web. Processing happens on your device, so speed depends on its power. Files larger than 1 gigabyte are not accepted, to keep your browser responsive.
Limits
This tool keeps one continuous part of one video. It does not join clips, add text, change speed, crop the picture or remove a section from the middle. It needs a recent browser with video encoding support, such as current Chrome, Edge or Safari. It is built with the open source Mediabunny library.
Why use this video trimmer tool
- Preview before you cut. Watch the video, set the start and end by slider, by typing, or from the current playback time, and play just the selection.
- Precise or fast. Precise cut re-encodes for an exact start. Turn it off to copy the video without re-encoding when your browser and file allow, which is faster and keeps full quality.
- MP4 or WebM output. Download the trimmed clip as MP4 for wide compatibility or WebM for the web.
- Private and no watermark. The video is processed on your device, never uploaded, and the clip has no watermark.
Frequently asked questions
How do I trim a video online for free?
Choose your video, set the start and end with the sliders or by typing times, check the selection with Play selection, and press Trim and download. It is free, needs no account, and adds no watermark.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. The video is read and processed in your browser using your device. Nothing is sent to a server, so private videos stay on your device.
What is the difference between a precise cut and a fast cut?
A precise cut re-encodes the video so it starts exactly where you chose, and it takes longer. A fast cut copies the existing video data without re-encoding when possible, which is quicker and keeps full quality, but the start can snap to the nearest earlier key frame.
What video formats are supported?
You can open files your browser can play, usually MP4, MOV, WebM and some MKV files. The output is MP4 or WebM. Some formats, such as certain HEVC videos, may not open in every browser.
Why does it take a while with long videos?
A precise cut has to decode and encode every frame in the part you keep, using your device. Longer or higher-resolution clips take longer, and the progress bar shows how far it has got. Keep the tab open until it finishes.
Does it work on a phone?
It works in recent browsers on phones that support the browser's video tools. Large videos are slower and use more memory on a phone, so a computer is better for long or high-resolution clips.
