How to use Video to Audio Converter
- Choose a video file such as MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV. A preview player appears.
- Optional: drag the Start and End sliders, or type exact times, to keep only part of the sound.
- Choose the audio format: M4A, OGG or WAV.
- Press Extract audio, play the preview, then press Download.
How audio extraction works
A video file holds a picture track and a sound track. This tool reads your video in the browser, decodes the sound, and writes it again into an audio-only file in the format you choose. The picture is ignored.
Because the sound is encoded again, M4A and OGG files are lossy, like most audio you already use. WAV keeps the decoded sound exactly, at the cost of a much larger file.
Tips
- Use the preview player to find the part you want, then set Start and End.
- M4A works for ringtones, podcasts and music players on most devices.
- WAV is best if you plan to edit the audio further.
- Keep your original video; the audio file is a new, separate file.
- Keep the tab open until the progress bar finishes.
Formats and speed
Available formats are M4A (AAC), OGG (Opus) and WAV. A format is only shown if your browser can create it. Speed depends on your device and the length of the video. Files larger than 1 gigabyte are not accepted.
Limits
MP3 output is not available because browsers cannot encode MP3. The tool extracts one audio track and does not edit, mix or normalise the sound. It needs a recent browser with audio encoding support, such as current Chrome, Edge or Safari. Nothing is uploaded; it is built with the open source Mediabunny library.
Why use this video to audio converter tool
- Audio only. The picture is left out, so you get a small audio file with just the sound from your video.
- Trim while extracting. Set a start and end time to keep only the part you want, such as one song or one speech.
- Several formats. Save as M4A (AAC) for wide compatibility, OGG (Opus) for small files, or WAV for uncompressed audio. Only formats your browser can create are offered.
- Private and no watermark. The audio is extracted on your device, never uploaded, and there is no limit on how often you use it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I extract audio from a video for free?
Choose your video, optionally set a start and end time, pick a format and press Extract audio. Play the preview and press Download. It is free, needs no account and everything happens in your browser.
Can I convert MP4 to MP3 here?
Not directly. Browsers can create AAC, Opus and WAV audio but have no built-in MP3 encoder, so this tool does not offer MP3 and does not pretend to. M4A (AAC) plays on nearly every phone, computer and music app, and is usually the best replacement.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. The video is read and processed in your browser using your device. Nothing is sent to a server, so private videos and recordings stay with you.
Which audio format should I choose?
Choose M4A for the best compatibility with phones and players. Choose OGG (Opus) for small files with good quality where it is supported. Choose WAV when you need uncompressed audio for editing; WAV files are large.
Why did it say no audio could be extracted?
The video may have no sound track, or it may use an audio format your browser cannot decode. Try playing the video in the preview first. If it has sound there, try another browser such as current Chrome, Edge or Safari.
