How to use Video Editor
- Add your media: click Add media or drop videos, photos and music on the page. Each video or photo is added to the timeline in order.
- Press Play to preview. Click the ruler to move the playhead, and click a clip to select it.
- Trim by dragging the ends of a clip, split at the playhead with Split (or the S key), and drag clips to re-order them. Select a clip to change its speed, volume, filters, fades and transition.
- Add titles with Text, drag the text on the preview to position it, and drag music or voice-over clips on the Audio track.
- Choose the shape (16:9, 9:16, 1:1 and more), quality and frame rate under Project, then press Export video and download your MP4 or WebM.
How to edit a video online, step by step
Start by adding your clips. Each video or photo lands on the video track one after another. Press Play to check the order, then fine-tune: drag the ends of a clip to trim it, move the playhead and press Split to cut a clip in two, and drag a clip to a new position to re-order. Delete what you do not need and press Undo if you change your mind.
Next, polish. Select a clip to change its speed, mute or lower its sound, rotate it, apply a colour preset such as Vivid or Black & white, or add a fade in and out. Select the second clip and choose Cross-dissolve to blend it into the first. Add titles with the Text button and drag them into place, then add music on the Audio track and fade it out at the end.
Finally open Project to choose the shape and quality and press Export video.
Picking the right shape and quality
Choose the shape for where the video will be watched. Use 16:9 for YouTube and most computers, 9:16 for Reels, Shorts and TikTok, 1:1 or 4:5 for Instagram and Facebook feeds, and 21:9 for a cinema look. A clip that does not match the shape is shown in full with bars by default; set it to Fill to crop the edges, or use Zoom and the position sliders to frame it.
For quality, 720p is a good balance of sharpness and file size, 1080p suits big screens, and 360p or 480p make small files for messaging apps. 30 fps suits most videos, 24 fps gives a film look and 60 fps suits fast action.
Tips for faster, better edits
- Cut dead air first: split before and after the part you do not need and delete it. The clips close up automatically.
- Keep titles short and large, and use the outline or a background colour so they stay readable on any footage.
- Fade music in and out so it does not start or stop abruptly, and lower its volume under speech.
- Use speed sparingly. Slow motion (0.5x) for highlights and fast motion (2x) for boring stretches both work well.
- For long or 1080p projects, close other tabs and keep the editor tab visible while exporting.
What this editor does not do
It runs entirely in your browser, so it is built for everyday edits rather than professional production. It does not do multi-camera editing, keyframe animation, green screen or motion tracking. Very long, very high-resolution projects can run out of memory on small devices, so work in shorter pieces if the browser struggles. If a file will not open, it may use a codec your browser cannot decode; converting it to MP4 first usually fixes that.
Why use this video editor tool
- Real timeline editing. Video, text and audio tracks with trimming handles, splitting, drag-to-reorder, zoom, undo and redo, and keyboard shortcuts.
- Everything you need. Speed from 0.25x to 4x, volume and fades, rotate and flip, zoom and pan, colour filters, cross-dissolve transitions and animated titles.
- Any shape, any quality. Export for YouTube (16:9), Reels, Shorts and TikTok (9:16), Instagram (1:1 and 4:5) or cinema (21:9), from 360p to 1080p at 24, 30 or 60 fps.
- Private, with no watermark. Editing and export happen on your device using your browser’s video encoder. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is added to your video.
Frequently asked questions
Is this video editor really free, with no watermark?
Yes. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark. The video is exported on your own device.
Are my videos uploaded anywhere?
No. Your files are read, edited and exported inside your browser. You can check the network tab of your browser’s developer tools to confirm nothing is sent.
Which video formats can I import?
MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV videos your browser can decode, JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF photos, and MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG and FLAC audio. If a file will not open, convert it to MP4 first.
What can I export?
MP4 (H.264 with AAC audio where your browser supports it) or WebM. Choose the shape, quality (360p to 1080p) and frame rate in the Project panel.
How long can my video be?
Projects up to about 20 minutes can be exported. Export speed depends on your device, because every frame is rendered in your browser. Keep the tab open and in front while it works.
Why is the preview not perfectly smooth?
The preview plays your original files live and can stutter on slow computers or with big files. The exported video is rendered frame by frame, so it is smooth whatever the preview looked like.
Which browser should I use?
A recent Chrome or Edge on a computer works best. Safari works for most edits; colour filters need Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
