How to use Text Diff Checker
- Paste the original text on the left and the changed text on the right.
- Optionally ignore case or leading and trailing spaces.
- Read the highlighted result: green lines were added, red lines were removed.
What a diff shows
A diff lists the minimum set of changes needed to turn one text into another. Lines that appear in both versions are shown unchanged, lines only in the first are marked removed, and lines only in the second are marked added. It is the same idea behind Git’s change view.
Everyday uses
- Spot what an editor changed between two drafts of an article.
- Compare two versions of a contract or policy before signing.
- Check config files or code snippets from different environments.
- Verify that copied data matches its source.
Reading the result
A changed line appears as one red line (the old version) followed by one green line (the new version). If nothing is highlighted, the two texts are identical under your chosen options. Turn on “Ignore leading/trailing spaces” when the only difference is indentation, and “Ignore case” when capitalisation changed.
Why use this text diff checker tool
- Line-by-line diff. Uses a longest-common-subsequence algorithm like Git.
- Ignore options. Skip differences in case or surrounding spaces.
- Swap sides. Flip original and changed with one click.
- Private. Nothing is uploaded, so confidential drafts stay safe.
Frequently asked questions
How does the comparison work?
The tool finds the longest sequence of lines that appear in both texts in the same order, then marks everything else as removed from the original or added in the changed version.
Can I compare code?
Yes, any plain text works. For whole files, paste their contents. It compares lines, not individual characters.
Is there a size limit?
Up to 3,000 lines per side, which keeps the browser responsive.
