How to use Reverse Text
- Type or paste your text in the input box.
- Pick a mode: reverse characters, word order, each word or line order.
- Read the result on the right.
- Press Copy to use it elsewhere.
What reversing text means
Reversing text sounds trivial, but there are several different operations people mean by it. Reversing characters produces a mirror image of the string. Reversing word order keeps each word readable but flips the sentence. Reversing each word keeps the order and flips only the letters. Reversing lines flips the order of a list while keeping every line intact.
This page offers all four so you can choose the one that matches your goal, and you can switch between them to compare results without retyping anything.
Common uses
- Create simple puzzles, riddles and “secret message” games for kids.
- Check whether a word or phrase is a palindrome by comparing it with its reversal.
- Reverse a list, such as a changelog or log excerpt, so the newest entry comes first.
- Test how your software handles reversed or unusual input.
- Produce playful backwards text for social media posts.
Notes on accuracy
Character reversal depends on the browser’s Intl.Segmenter feature to keep complex symbols together. All current major browsers support it. In an older browser the tool falls back to splitting by code point, which still keeps most characters intact but can separate some combined emoji or accent marks.
Reversing is not encryption. Anyone can flip the text back, so do not use it to hide sensitive information. Your text is never transmitted; all processing happens in the page.
A few examples make the modes concrete. With the text “Hello world”, reversing characters gives “dlrow olleH”, reversing word order gives “world Hello”, and reversing each word gives “olleH dlrow”. For a three-line list, reversing line order simply flips the list top to bottom without touching the words on each line. If you are checking a palindrome, compare the original and the character-reversed result after removing spaces and punctuation yourself, since this tool does not strip them.
Why use this reverse text tool
- Four modes. Reverse the whole string, the order of words, the letters of each word, or the order of lines.
- Unicode aware. Where supported, Intl.Segmenter keeps emoji, flags and letters with accents together instead of tearing them apart.
- Preserves spacing. Spaces and line breaks stay where the mode expects them, so layout is predictable.
- Private and instant. Runs locally with no upload and updates as you type.
Frequently asked questions
Why do some tools break emoji when reversing?
Many emoji and accented letters are made of several code points joined together. A naive reversal flips those pieces separately and produces broken symbols. This tool groups text into user-perceived characters first, so each emoji stays whole.
What is the difference between reversing words and reversing each word?
Reversing word order turns “one two three” into “three two one”. Reversing each word keeps the order but flips the letters, giving “eno owt eerht”. Reversing characters flips the entire string, giving “eerht owt eno”.
Does it work with right-to-left languages?
It reverses the stored order of characters, which is what you asked for, but languages such as Arabic and Hebrew are displayed right to left by your browser, so the visual result can look different from what you expect.
