What this editor is good for

It is a quick way to write a letter, an assignment, notes, a short report or a cover letter without installing software or signing in. You can open a Word file someone sent you, make changes, and download it again.

It is made for ordinary documents. It is not a replacement for a full word processor if you need page layouts, headers and footers, tracked changes or several people editing at once.

Formatting tips

  • Use Heading 1, 2 and 3 for titles and sections instead of just making text bigger. It keeps the structure clear when you open the file in Word.
  • Select text before you apply bold, italic, colours or a link.
  • Use a numbered list for steps and a bulleted list for items.
  • Insert a table with the rows and columns boxes, then click in a cell to type.
  • Use Clear formatting if pasted text looks odd.

Pasting, opening and saving

Text pasted from a web page or another document keeps its basic formatting, but scripts, pictures and unusual styles are removed to keep the page safe. When you open a .docx file, the editor reads its text, headings, bold, italic, lists, links and tables. Pictures, underline, colours and alignment are not included, so reapply them if you need them.

Download Word creates a .docx file from what you see. HTML and Text save simpler versions. Use Print or save as PDF for a PDF copy.

Limits

This tool does not support pictures, headers and footers, page numbers, columns, tracked changes, comments or collaboration. It cannot open old .doc files; save them as .docx first. The document is stored in this browser only, so keep a downloaded copy of anything important.

Why use this online document editor tool

  • Everyday formatting. Headings, bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, text size, colours, highlight, lists, indents, alignment, links, tables and horizontal lines.
  • Word files in and out. Open a .docx file to edit it and download your document as .docx. You can also save HTML or plain text, or print to PDF.
  • Saves as you type. Your document is kept in your browser automatically, so it is still there when you return.
  • Private, no account. The document is edited and converted on your device. Nothing is uploaded and nothing needs a login.

Frequently asked questions

How do I create a Word document online for free?

Open this editor, type your text and format it with the toolbar, then press Download Word (.docx). The file opens in Word and in most other word processors. You do not need an account or to install anything.

Can I open and edit a .docx file here?

Yes. Press Open Word file and choose a .docx file. Text, headings, bold, italic, lists, links and tables are brought in. Underline, colours, alignment, pictures and complex page layout such as headers, footers and columns are not carried over, so check the result and reapply any formatting you need.

How do I save my document as a PDF?

Press Print or save as PDF, then choose Save as PDF as the destination in the print window. Only the document is printed, without the rest of the page.

Is my document saved?

It is saved automatically in this browser on this device, so it is there when you come back. It does not sync to other devices, and clearing browser data deletes it, so download a copy of anything important.

Is my document private?

Yes. It is edited in your browser and converted to .docx on your own device. It is never sent to a server by this tool.

Will it look exactly the same in Word?

Basic formatting such as headings, bold, lists, links and tables carries over well. Fine details such as exact spacing, fonts and page breaks can differ, so check the file in your word processor before you send it.
