How to use Online Notepad

  1. Click in the note and start typing. It saves automatically as you write.
  2. Press New note for another note, and use the search box to find one by any word in it.
  3. Pin a note to keep it at the top, copy it, or download it as a text file.
  4. Press Back up all notes now and then to download a copy you can restore later.

What this notepad is for

It is a quick place to write: a to-do list, meeting notes, ideas, a draft message or text you want to copy somewhere else. It is plain text, so it is fast and works on any device. It is not a replacement for a full document editor.

Because it needs no account, it is handy on a shared or borrowed computer for a quick job. Just remember that notes stay in that browser.

Keeping your notes safe

  • Press Back up all notes after you write something important, and keep the file somewhere safe.
  • Do not store passwords, card numbers or other secrets in a notepad.
  • Avoid private or incognito windows if you want the notes to be there next time.
  • On a shared computer, delete notes you do not want others to see.
  • Restoring from a backup adds notes to the ones already in the browser. It does not replace them.

Searching and organising

The first line of each note becomes its title, so start with a short heading. Search looks through the full text of every note. Pin notes you use often, and they stay at the top of the list. The most recently edited notes come first.

You can make the text larger or smaller with the buttons under the note, which helps on small screens.

Limits

This tool stores plain text only. It has no formatting, pictures, shared editing or sync between devices. Notes live in your browser storage, which a browser can clear in some situations, so a backup file is the safe copy. It needs the page to be loaded once, and then works without sending anything over the internet.

Why use this online notepad tool

  • Many notes, searchable. Keep a list of notes, search across all of them and pin the ones you use most.
  • Saves as you type. Notes are saved on your device a moment after each change, with a clear Saved indicator.
  • Copy, download and back up. Copy a note, download it as a .txt file, or back up every note in one file and restore it later.
  • Private, no account. Notes stay in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and there is nothing to sign up for.

Frequently asked questions

Are my notes saved?

Yes. Each note is saved automatically in this browser on this device, and it is still there when you come back. Notes do not sync between devices, and clearing your browser data deletes them, so use Back up all notes to keep a copy.

Do I need to log in or create an account?

No. There is no login and no account. Open the page and start typing.

Are my notes private?

Your notes are stored only in your own browser and are never sent to a server by this tool. Anyone who can use your device and browser profile could open them, so do not keep passwords or other secrets in a notepad.

How do I move my notes to another device?

Press Back up all notes to download a backup file, send the file to the other device, open this page there and press Restore from backup. The notes are added to that browser.

Why did my notes disappear?

Notes live in your browser's storage. Clearing site data or cookies, using a private window, or switching to another browser or profile can remove them or hide them. A backup file protects you from this.

Is there a limit to how much I can write?

Browsers allow a few megabytes of local storage for a site, which is room for a very large number of ordinary notes. If storage is full, the page tells you it could not save, and you should download a backup and delete old notes.
