How to use Online To-Do List

  1. Type a task in the box and press Enter to add it, then tick it when it is done.
  2. Create separate lists for work, home or shopping using the New list box on the left.
  3. Open a task with the arrow button to set a priority and due date, write notes and add subtasks.
  4. Use Export to save a backup file, or Copy as text to paste your list as a checklist into a note or message.

Setting up your lists

A good system starts with a few lists that match how you live, such as Work, Home and Shopping. Create each one from the left panel on a computer, or the row of chips above the tasks on a phone.

Keep each list short enough to scan. If a list grows very long, split it by project or by week.

Making tasks easy to finish

  • Write tasks as small actions that start with a verb, such as Call the dentist.
  • Use subtasks to break big jobs into steps, and watch the count rise as you finish them.
  • Set a due date only when a date really matters, so the highlights stay meaningful.
  • Use high priority sparingly, so it still means something.
  • Review the list each morning and press Clear completed once you are happy with what is done.

Backups and sharing

Press Export to download all of your lists as a JSON file, and Import to restore them later or on another device. Importing replaces the lists currently in this browser, and you can press Undo straight away if that was a mistake.

Copy as text turns the open list into a markdown checklist with subtasks, due dates and notes, ready to paste into a document, chat or email.

Limits

Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Lists are stored only on this device and are not synced. There are no reminders or notifications. Browsers allow roughly five megabytes of local storage, which is plenty for thousands of tasks, but clearing site data deletes your lists, so export a backup regularly.

Why use this online to-do list tool

  • Multiple lists. Create, rename and delete lists, and switch between them with one click. Each list shows its own progress bar.
  • Subtasks, notes and dates. Break a task into subtasks with a progress count, add notes, set a priority and a due date. Overdue and due-today tasks are highlighted.
  • Filter, search and sort. Show all, active or done tasks, search by text, and sort by due date or priority. Drag tasks, or use the arrows, to put them in your own order.
  • Undo and backup. Deleted tasks and lists can be brought back with Undo for six seconds. Export and import a JSON backup, or copy a list as a text checklist.

Frequently asked questions

Is this online to-do list really free, with no login?

Yes. You do not need an account, an email address or a payment. Open the page and start adding tasks. There are no watermarks or limits on the number of lists or tasks beyond what your browser can store.

Where are my tasks saved?

Your lists are saved in your own browser on this device using local storage. They are not uploaded to any server. Clearing your browser data, or using a private window, can remove them, so export a backup file for anything important.

Can I use my to-do list on my phone and my computer?

Yes, you can open the page on any device, but lists are not synced between devices because nothing is stored online. To move a list, press Export on one device and Import on the other, or copy it as text.

Will it remind me when a task is due?

No. This tool does not send reminders, emails or notifications. Due dates are only shown on the task, and tasks that are due today or overdue are highlighted when you open the page, so check back each day.

How do I reorder tasks or add subtasks?

Drag a task up or down with a mouse, or use the up and down arrow buttons, which also work on touch screens. Open a task with the arrow button to add subtasks and see their progress count. Reordering works with manual sort, the All filter and an empty search box.
