How to use Flowchart Maker

  1. Press a shape button, such as Start / End, Process or Decision, to add it to the canvas. Drag it where you want it.
  2. Click a shape to type its text, change its colour or switch its shape. Drag the blue dot at its corner to resize it.
  3. Turn Connect on, click one shape and then another to draw an arrow. Click an arrow to add a label such as Yes or No, or make it a right-angle line.
  4. Press Download PNG or Download SVG. Use Save file to keep a copy you can open later.

Flowchart symbols at a glance

A flowchart uses a small set of shapes so anyone can read it. The rounded Start / End shape begins and ends the chart. Rectangles show steps. Diamonds ask a question and split the flow. Parallelograms show data coming in or going out, cylinders show stored data, and circles link one part of a chart to another.

Arrows show direction. Read the chart from the Start shape and follow the arrows. Every decision should have arrows labelled with each answer.

How to draw a clear flowchart

  • Write each step as a short action, such as Check the stock, not a long sentence.
  • Keep one Start shape and at least one End shape.
  • Flow from top to bottom or left to right so the chart reads naturally.
  • Label every arrow that leaves a decision, for example Yes and No.
  • Colour sparingly. One colour for decisions and one for outcomes is usually enough.
  • Break a very large chart into smaller charts and link them with connector circles.

Moving, resizing and exporting

Drag shapes to move them and use the blue dot at the corner of a selected shape to resize it. Shapes snap to a 10 pixel grid so rows line up. The arrow keys nudge a selected shape, Delete removes it, and Undo and Redo work for your last changes.

PNG is best for slides and documents. SVG stays sharp at any size and can be edited later in a drawing program. Save file stores the editable diagram so you can open it again.

Limits

This is a simple diagram tool. It draws straight and right-angle connectors without avoiding other shapes, so move shapes if lines cross text. It does not support swimlanes, groups, shared editing or importing files from other programs. Your diagram is stored in this browser only, so download a copy of anything important.

Why use this flowchart maker tool

  • Standard flowchart shapes. Start / End, Process, Decision, Input / Output, Database, Connector and Note shapes, with text wrapped inside.
  • Arrows that follow your shapes. Connectors stay attached when you move a shape. Choose straight or right-angle lines, dashed lines and labels such as Yes and No.
  • PNG, SVG and saved files. Download a PNG or a sharp SVG, or save the diagram as a file and open it again later. There is no watermark.
  • Private and works on phones. Your diagram is drawn and saved in your browser, never uploaded. Touch dragging and pinch-free zoom buttons work on phones.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a flowchart online for free?

Add shapes with the buttons, drag them into place, type your text, then turn on Connect and click two shapes to join them with an arrow. When it looks right, press Download PNG or Download SVG. It is free, needs no sign-up and adds no watermark.

What do the flowchart shapes mean?

A rounded Start / End shape marks where the process begins and finishes. A rectangle is a step or action. A diamond is a decision with two or more outcomes, such as Yes and No. A parallelogram is input or output, a cylinder is stored data or a database, and a small circle is a connector that links to another part of the chart.

How do I add Yes and No to the arrows from a decision?

Click the arrow, then type Yes or No in the label box that appears. Make one arrow from the decision for each possible answer, so every outcome leads somewhere.

Can I save my flowchart and edit it later?

Your diagram is saved automatically in this browser on this device. To keep it safe or move it to another device, press Save file, which downloads a file you can open again with Open file. Clearing your browser data removes the automatic copy.

Can I use this to draw other diagrams, such as a process map or an algorithm?

Yes. The same shapes work for process maps, simple algorithms, decision flows, user journeys and organisation steps. For a hierarchy chart, use process shapes and elbow arrows.
