How to use Countdown Timer

Choose To a date for an event, or A duration for a timer.
For an event, give it a title and pick the date and time. For a timer, set minutes and seconds or press a preset.
Press Start for a timer. Pause or reset at any time.
Press Fullscreen to show the digits large on the whole screen.

Counting down to an event

Pick the date and time of the wedding, launch, exam or holiday, and give it a title. The page shows the time left and updates the tab title, so you can leave it open in the background. When the moment arrives it shows that time is up.

Using the timer

Choose a preset or type minutes and seconds.
Start, pause and reset as often as you like.
Keep the page open until the chime sounds.
Use Test chime to set a comfortable volume.

Good uses

Cooking, study sessions, workouts, presentations, classroom activities and meetings all work well. The fullscreen view is useful when the countdown must be seen from across a room.

Limits

This is a web page, so the countdown only runs while the page is open, and a chime needs the page to be open and allowed to play sound. The timer is not a reliable alarm for anything critical. Event details are saved only in this browser. Duration timers are limited to 5,999 minutes. Nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How do I count down to a date?

Open To a date, type an optional title, and pick the date and time in the picker. The days, hours, minutes and seconds update every second. Your event is saved in this browser, so it is still there when you return. You can change or clear it at any time.

Will the timer stay accurate in a background tab?

Yes. The remaining time is calculated from the clock each time the display updates, not by counting ticks, so it catches up immediately when you return to the tab. Browsers may delay the chime in some sleeping tabs. Closing the page stops the timer, so keep the tab open.

Does it play a sound when time is up?

Yes. A short chime plays when a duration timer ends, and when your date arrives while the page is open. Press Test chime to check your volume. Browsers only allow sound after you have interacted with the page, such as pressing Start.

Which time zone is used?

The date and time you pick are read in your device time zone. If the event is somewhere else, convert its time to your local time first. A world clock or time zone converter can help with that.

Can I use it on a big screen or projector?

Yes. Press Fullscreen to fill the screen with the countdown. Press Escape or the same button to leave fullscreen. Some browsers or embedded views may block fullscreen. If fullscreen does not start, a short message tells you, and the countdown still works normally in the page.
