Pomodoro Timer
Work in focused sprints with a simple Pomodoro timer. Start a 25 minute focus session, take a short break, and after a few rounds take a longer one. Change the lengths, name your task, and see how much you focused today and over the last week. It runs in your browser, with no account, and your history stays on your device.

How to use Pomodoro Timer
- Type what you are working on, or leave it blank.
- Press Start, or Space, to begin a focus session. The time also shows in the browser tab title.
- When the chime sounds, take the break. Turn on auto-start to roll straight into the next session.
- Change the focus, short break and long break minutes in Settings to suit you, and check Today for your totals.
How the Pomodoro technique works
The Pomodoro technique is a time management method. You choose one task, work on it for a fixed focus session without interruptions, then take a short break. After several sessions you take a longer break to recover.
The short, fixed length makes it easier to start, and the breaks help you keep your attention fresh over a long study or work day.
Tips for better focus sessions
- Write down one clear task before you press Start.
- Silence other notifications and keep only what you need open.
- If you get distracted, note it down and return to the task.
- Take the break away from your screen, and stretch or drink some water.
- If 25 minutes feels too short or too long, try another length such as 50 and 10.
Keyboard shortcuts and accuracy
Press Space to start or pause and R to reset when you are not typing in a field. While the timer runs, the remaining time also appears in the browser tab title, so you can see it from another tab.
The timer stores the moment the session should end and compares it with the clock, so time keeps passing correctly even if the tab is slowed in the background.
Limits
This timer works only while the page is open in your browser, and browsers or phones may delay sounds and notifications for background or sleeping tabs. It does not sync between devices, and your log is stored only in this browser, so clearing site data removes it. All of this runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
Why use this pomodoro timer tool
- Stays accurate in the background. The timer compares against the clock instead of counting ticks, and it re-checks the moment you return to the tab, so the time stays correct.
- Your own lengths. Set focus, short break and long break minutes, and how many focus sessions come before a long break. The defaults are 25, 5 and 15, with a long break after 4.
- Chime and notifications. A gentle chime made in your browser plays when a session ends, with a volume slider and mute. You can also turn on a browser notification.
- Daily focus log. Completed focus sessions and focused minutes are saved on your device, with a small chart of the last 7 days.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Pomodoro timer and how do I use it?
The Pomodoro technique splits work into short, focused sessions, traditionally 25 minutes, separated by short breaks. After about four sessions you take a longer break. Press Start, work on one task until the chime, then rest. You can change every length in Settings.
Does the timer keep working if I switch tabs?
Yes. The timer measures time against your device clock rather than counting ticks, and it re-syncs when you come back. Browsers may slow background tabs, so the chime or title update can be a moment late, but the time itself stays correct. Keep the page open.
Is my data uploaded or shared?
No. The timer runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. Your settings, task name and daily log are saved only in this browser on this device, and you can clear the history at any time.
Can I change the 25 minute session length?
Yes. Edit the focus, short break and long break minutes in Settings, from 1 to 180, and choose how many focus sessions happen before a long break. Changes apply to the next session, or straight away if the timer is stopped.
How do I get a sound or notification when the session ends?
A chime plays automatically when a session ends, and you can adjust the volume or mute it. For a pop-up notification, press Enable notifications and allow it in your browser. The sound needs the page to be open.
Does it work on my phone?
It works in recent mobile browsers, but phones often pause or throttle pages when the screen locks. For the most reliable chime, keep the screen on and the tab open while you work.
