How to use Mind Map Maker
- Type your main idea on the first line.
- Add branches on new lines, indenting with two spaces to go one level deeper.
- Watch the mind map update as you type.
- Press Download PNG or SVG to save the image.
How to build a good mind map
Put one central idea in the middle and keep branch labels short, a word or a few words. Group related ideas under one main branch and go deeper only where you need detail.
Outline format
- First line: the central topic.
- Two spaces or one tab per level of indent.
- A leading dash or asterisk on a line is ignored, so you can paste bullet lists.
Limits
Labels longer than about 30 characters are shortened in the picture. The layout is a left-to-right tree, and you cannot drag nodes around.
Why use this mind map maker tool
- Type, do not drag. An indented outline is the fastest way to get ideas down; the layout is done for you.
- Colour-coded branches. Each main branch gets its own colour that carries down to its sub-topics.
- PNG and SVG export. A high-resolution PNG for documents and slides, or a scalable SVG for editing.
- Private. The map is drawn in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make a branch?
Start a line with two more spaces than the line above it. That line becomes a child of the one above. Lines with the same indentation are siblings.
Can I have more than one top-level idea?
The first line is always the centre. Any other lines with no indent become main branches off that centre.
How do I download my mind map?
Press Download PNG for an image, or SVG for a vector file you can edit in a drawing program.
Is my text saved?
The map is not stored. Copy your outline somewhere safe before closing the page, as it resets when you reload.
