The short answer
iLovePDF is a web service with a broad catalogue of PDF tools, plus desktop apps, mobile apps and a developer API. According to its own site, the web tools cover organising (merge, split, remove or extract pages), optimising (compress, repair, OCR), converting to and from Office formats and images, editing (rotate, page numbers, watermark, crop), and security (unlock, protect, sign, redact, compare). It also lists AI features and custom workflows.
Robince Studio takes a narrower and architecturally different approach. Every tool runs inside your browser tab using JavaScript. When you merge or compress a PDF, the file is read from your disk into the page, processed by your own device, and saved back to your disk. It is never uploaded, so there is no server copy to delete, no account to create and no queue to wait in.
That is the whole trade: we cover the common, self-contained PDF jobs privately and instantly, while a large service covers more formats and features because it has server infrastructure behind it. Which one fits depends on the document in front of you.
Use Robince Studio when privacy and speed matter and the job is a standard one; use a full service when you need OCR or Word and Excel conversion.
Side-by-side comparison

What "runs in your browser" actually means
Most online PDF tools work by uploading your file to a server, running software there, and sending a result back. That model is convenient, and reputable providers publish security certifications and retention policies. But it does mean a copy of your document leaves your device, even if only for a short time.
Our tools reverse that model. The page you load contains the code; your browser does the work. This has practical consequences beyond privacy: there is no upload wait on a slow connection, nothing to be rate-limited on a server, and a 200 page document is processed at the speed of your own computer rather than a shared queue.
You do not have to take our word for it. The check takes under a minute:
- Open the tool page, then open your browser developer tools and switch to the Network tab.
- Add a PDF and run the task. Watch the list of requests: the file itself is not sent anywhere, because the work happens in the page.
- For a stronger test, turn on airplane mode after the page has loaded and run the task again. It still works.
You can verify the no-upload claim yourself in the browser network tab or by going offline.
Common jobs and how to do them here
These are the tasks people most often reach iLovePDF for, mapped to the matching tool on this site.
- Combine several files into one: PDF Merge. Add files, drag them into order, and download the combined document.
- Pull out a section or break a report into chapters: Split PDF, or Delete PDF Pages to drop the pages you do not want.
- Make a PDF small enough to email: Compress PDF. It shows the size before and after so you can judge the trade-off.
- Turn photos or scans into a document: JPG to PDF. For the reverse, PDF to JPG exports each page as an image.
- Fix page order or orientation: Reorder PDF Pages and Rotate PDF.
- Number or stamp pages: Add Page Numbers to PDF and Watermark PDF.
- Sign or fill a form: Sign PDF and Fill PDF Form.
- Black out sensitive text before sharing: Redact PDF. For best results, run Flatten PDF afterwards so nothing editable remains underneath.
An honest note on compression
PDF compression is where tools differ most, and it is worth understanding what happens. A PDF is a container. Many files are large because they hold high-resolution images, so shrinking them means resampling those images. Our Compress PDF offers two approaches: rebuild each page as a compressed image, which can give large savings on scan-heavy or image-heavy files, or tidy the internal structure only, which keeps text selectable but usually saves less.
The image-rebuild route has a real cost: the output pages become pictures, so text is no longer selectable or searchable. That is a good trade for a scanned form you only need to email, and a poor one for a contract you need to search. Choose per file, and keep your original.
When another tool is the better choice
A fair comparison has to say where we do not win. Choose iLovePDF, or another full service or desktop application, when:
- You need OCR to turn a scanned document into searchable or copyable text. We do not offer OCR.
- You need to convert between PDF and Word, Excel or PowerPoint with layout preserved. We do not offer Office conversion.
- You want to rewrite existing body text inside a PDF. Our PDF Editor can add text and images and white out areas, but it is not a full text-reflow editor.
- You work mostly on a phone and want a dedicated app, or you want to automate PDF tasks through an API or integrations such as Zapier.
- Your team needs shared workflows, centralised billing or support contracts.
- You must process very large batches unattended. A desktop app or server job is better suited than a browser tab, which depends on your device memory.
Limits of in-browser processing
Because your device does the work, very large PDFs (hundreds of megabytes) can be slow or run out of memory on older phones. Password-protected files must be unlocked with the correct password before most tools can read them. And because we do not keep your files, we cannot restore a result later: download what you need before closing the tab.
Competitor limits, such as the number of tasks or the file size allowed on a free plan, change over time and differ between providers. Check the current terms of any service before depending on it for a large job. We impose no daily task limit of our own, but your browser and device memory are real limits.
Frequently asked questions
Is Robince Studio really free?
Yes. The PDF tools run in your browser with no account, no watermark and no daily task limit imposed by us. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my PDFs uploaded anywhere?
No. The processing happens in your browser tab. You can confirm this in your browser network tab or by switching to airplane mode after the page loads and running a tool.
Can I convert PDF to Word here?
No. We do not offer PDF to Word, Excel or PowerPoint conversion. A service that supports Office formats, or a desktop application, is the right choice for that.
Does it work offline?
After the page has loaded, the tool itself runs without a connection. Reload the page once while online, and then you can disconnect before processing a file.
