SVG to PNG

Paste SVG code or upload an SVG file, choose a scale from 1x to 4x and a background, and download a crisp PNG. The SVG is rendered only as an image, never inserted into the page.

Runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded.

How to use SVG to PNG

  1. Upload an SVG file or paste its code into the box.
  2. Pick a scale from 1x to 4x.
  3. Keep the background transparent or turn it off and choose a colour.
  4. Check the preview and press Download PNG.

Vector versus raster

An SVG file describes shapes, curves and text with instructions, so it can be enlarged without losing sharpness. A PNG stores a grid of coloured pixels at one fixed size. Converting from SVG to PNG is called rasterising: the browser draws the instructions at a chosen size and saves the result as pixels. Choose the scale carefully, since a PNG cannot be enlarged later without blur.

A scale of 1x produces the nominal size, 2x suits high-density phone screens, and 3x or 4x is useful when you plan to shrink the image in a document or print it. Larger scales produce much bigger files, so a limit of 8192 pixels per side is applied to protect your device memory.

Good practice

  • Always include a viewBox in your SVG so it scales predictably.
  • Convert text to paths before sharing if the font is not installed everywhere.
  • Choose a solid background for places that display transparency as black, such as some chat apps.
  • Use 2x or higher for logos used on retina displays.
  • Keep the original SVG; you can export a new PNG at any size later.

Security and privacy

SVG files can contain scripts and links, which makes pasting unknown SVG into a web page risky. This tool never inserts your SVG into the page. It creates a temporary image from the text, so scripts do not execute, and the result is drawn on a canvas to produce the PNG. An internal parser is used only to read the size attributes.

Everything is processed locally and nothing is uploaded. Features that depend on external resources, animation and some advanced filters may not render exactly as in a full design tool, so check the preview before downloading.

Why use this svg to png tool

  • Scale up to 4x. Render at higher resolution for sharp icons, slides and print.
  • Transparent or solid. Keep transparency, or fill behind the artwork with any colour.
  • Safe rendering. The SVG is loaded as an image, so scripts inside it cannot run and it is never added to the page DOM.
  • Reads sizes automatically. Uses width, height or viewBox, and adds a missing namespace when needed.

Frequently asked questions

Why convert SVG to PNG?

SVG is vector, which scales without blurring, but not every app accepts it. Email clients, many social networks, word processors and some upload forms need raster files such as PNG. Converting creates a fixed-size picture that works almost everywhere.

Why is my SVG blank or showing an error?

The markup may be invalid, missing the closing svg tag, or rely on external files. SVGs drawn as images cannot load external stylesheets, fonts or pictures, so those parts will not show. Embed fonts as paths and images as data URLs for best results.

What size will the PNG be?

The base size comes from the width and height attributes, or the viewBox if those are missing. The scale multiplies it, so a 100 by 100 SVG at 3x becomes a 300 by 300 PNG. If no size information exists, 300 by 150 is assumed and a notice appears.
