How to use Meme Generator

1. Upload your picture, drop it on the page or paste it with Ctrl+V. You can also pick a plain colour or gradient background.
2. Type your caption in the Text box. The first two layers are the top and bottom captions; press Add text for more.
3. Change the font, size, colours, outline and alignment, then drag the text on the picture to move it.
4. Choose PNG or JPG and press Download, or press Copy image to paste it straight into a chat or document.

Making text easy to read

Classic memes use bold white text with a thick black outline because that combination stays readable on almost any photo. Impact style is the default for that reason.

• Keep captions short; a few words per line works best.
• Use a dark outline on light text, or the reverse, so it stands out on busy areas.
• Place text over calm parts of the picture and away from faces.
• Use ALL CAPS for the classic look and turn it off for a quieter style.

Working with several text layers

Click a layer button to edit it, or click the text on the picture. Each layer keeps its own font, size, colours, outline and alignment, so you can label things, add a caption and add a small credit line in different styles.

Text that is too long wraps onto more lines and then shrinks until it fits inside the picture, so it is never cut off.

Respect copyright and people

Only use images you took, made, or have permission to use. A funny caption does not change who owns a picture. Think twice before captioning photos of private people, and do not use memes to harass, mislead or embarrass anyone.

Limits

Everything is processed in your browser and nothing is uploaded. The tool supports up to eight text layers, and exports at a maximum of 2000 pixels on the longest side. Animated GIFs are loaded as a still first frame. Fonts are the ones installed on your device, so Impact, Georgia and Comic style may look slightly different on some phones. Copy image needs a browser that supports image clipboard access; otherwise use Download.
