How to use CSV to Excel Converter
- Choose a CSV file or paste CSV text.
- Check the delimiter, which is detected automatically, and tick whether the first row is a header.
- Look at the preview of the first 50 rows. Tick Treat all cells as text if you want nothing converted to numbers.
- Press Download .xlsx.
What the converter does
A CSV file is plain text with values separated by a delimiter. Excel files are structured workbooks with typed cells. This tool reads the text, understands quoted fields and a byte order mark at the start, then writes each value into a cell of the right type.
Numbers and text
- Plain numbers such as 12 or 3.5 become numeric cells.
- Values with leading zeros stay text so 00123 is not changed to 123.
- Digit strings of 16 or more characters stay text because Excel cannot hold that precision.
- Dates are kept as text exactly as they appear in the CSV.
- Use Treat all cells as text to convert nothing.
Tips
If special characters look wrong, save the CSV as UTF-8 before converting. If columns end up merged into one, choose the right delimiter by hand.
Limits
Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded. The converter handles up to 200,000 rows and writes a single sheet without formulas or colours. Only the first 50 rows are shown in the preview, but the whole file is converted.
Why use this csv to excel converter tool
- Real XLSX output. You get a genuine Excel workbook, not a renamed CSV, with numbers stored as numbers.
- Auto-detect delimiter. Comma, semicolon, tab and pipe separated files are recognised, and you can pick one by hand.
- Codes stay intact. Columns with leading zeros or very long digit codes are kept as text so ZIP codes and IDs are not damaged.
- Bold frozen header. The first row can be made bold and frozen so it stays visible when you scroll.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert CSV to Excel for free?
Choose your CSV file or paste its text, check the preview and press Download .xlsx. The conversion runs in your browser, so it is free, needs no account and does not upload your data anywhere.
How do I keep leading zeros when converting CSV to Excel?
This tool keeps columns that contain values with leading zeros, such as 00123, as text automatically. You can also tick Treat all cells as text to stop every conversion to numbers, which is useful for phone numbers and IDs.
My CSV uses semicolons. Will it work?
Yes. The delimiter is detected from the first lines of the file, and semicolon, comma, tab and pipe are supported. If the preview looks wrong, pick the delimiter manually from the list.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The file is read and converted entirely inside your browser tab. Nothing is sent over the network, so private spreadsheets stay on your device.
How many rows can I convert?
Up to 200,000 rows. If the file has more, only the first 200,000 are converted and the page tells you. Very large files may be slow on older phones, so split the file if the browser struggles.
