How to use Chart Maker

  1. Pick a chart type: bar, horizontal bar, line, pie or donut.
  2. Type your labels and numbers into the table, or paste rows copied from a spreadsheet and press Use this data.
  3. Add a title, change the colours and choose whether to show values, the legend and grid lines.
  4. Press Download PNG for an image or Download SVG for a sharp file you can resize.

Choosing the right chart

A bar chart compares amounts between categories, such as sales by region. A horizontal bar chart does the same job but gives long labels more room. A line chart shows how values change over time, such as monthly visitors. Pie and donut charts show how a whole is divided, and work best with two to six slices.

If you are unsure, start with a bar chart. It is the easiest type to read accurately because people compare lengths well.

Making a chart people can read

  • Give the chart a title that says what it shows, such as Monthly sales, 2025 and 2026.
  • Keep labels short. Long labels are cut off to fit.
  • Use values on the chart for a few bars, and turn them off when there are many.
  • Use no more than four or five series, and choose colours with clear differences.
  • Start bar charts at zero so bar lengths are not misleading. This tool always includes zero on the value axis.

Using your chart

Download a PNG for slides, documents and social posts. Download an SVG if you need to print the chart or resize it without losing sharpness, or if you want to edit it later in a drawing program. The PNG is exported at twice the displayed size for a crisp result.

Your data and settings are saved in this browser, so you can close the page and return later on the same device. Clearing your browser data removes them, so keep a copy of anything important.

Limits

This tool draws standard charts from a table of numbers. It does not connect to live data, and it keeps at most 40 rows and six series. Pie and donut charts use the first series only. Numbers are read as plain values, so enter 1250 or 1,250, not currency symbols or percent signs.

Why use this chart maker tool

  • Five chart types. Vertical bar, horizontal bar, line, pie and donut charts from the same table of data.
  • Several data series. Compare up to six series side by side in bar and line charts, such as this year and last year.
  • Paste from a spreadsheet. Copy cells from a spreadsheet or CSV and paste them in. Series names are picked up from the first row.
  • Clean PNG and SVG export. Download a high-resolution PNG, or an SVG that stays sharp at any size. No watermark is added.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a bar graph online for free?

Open this chart maker, choose Bar, then type your labels and numbers into the table. Add a title, pick a colour set and press Download PNG. You do not need an account, and no watermark is added.

How do I make a pie chart from data?

Choose Pie, then enter each slice as a row with a label and a positive number. The chart works out the percentages for you. Pie charts use one column of numbers, and negative or zero values are left out of the pie.

Can I paste data from a spreadsheet?

Yes. Copy a block of cells with labels in the first column and numbers in the others, open Paste data from a spreadsheet, paste, and press Use this data. If the first row contains words, they become the series names.

When should I use a bar chart, line chart or pie chart?

Use a bar chart to compare categories, a line chart to show change over time, and a pie or donut chart to show parts of a whole when there are only a few slices. If you have more than about six slices, a bar chart is easier to read.

Is my data uploaded or stored on a server?

No. The chart is drawn in your browser. Your data is saved only on this device so you can return to it, and it is never sent anywhere.
