How to use PDF to JPG

  1. Choose a PDF file or drop it onto the page.
  2. Pick JPG or PNG, then select a resolution. Higher resolution gives sharper images and larger files.
  3. Optionally type the pages you want, such as 1-3, 7. Leave it empty to convert every page.
  4. Press Convert to images. One page downloads directly; several pages download as a ZIP.

When converting a PDF to images makes sense

A PDF is a container for text, vector shapes and pictures, and it is not accepted everywhere. Many websites, forms, chat apps and design tools only take JPG or PNG. Converting each page to an image lets you attach a page to a message, paste a slide into a presentation, post a flyer to social media, or use one page as a thumbnail or preview for a web page.

Images are also handy when you want to annotate a page in a photo editor, or when you need to send someone just a single page of a long report without sharing the rest of the file.

Choosing between JPG and PNG

JPG uses lossy compression. It is excellent for pages that contain photographs because it keeps files small, but at low quality settings it can leave faint smudging around sharp text edges. A quality of 85 to 95 percent is a good balance. PNG is lossless, so text and diagrams stay crisp, but photographic pages can produce very large files.

  • Use JPG for photo-heavy pages, sharing and email.
  • Use PNG for text pages, diagrams, charts and screenshots.
  • Use a higher resolution if you plan to zoom in or print.

Limits and privacy

The output is a flat picture of each page. Text in the images cannot be selected or searched, and links and form fields are not preserved. If you need the words themselves, use a PDF to text tool instead. Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened here; remove the password first with the software that created it.

The conversion uses the pdf.js rendering library running inside your browser tab. Your file is never sent to a server, so confidential documents stay on your device. Closing the tab discards everything.

Why use this pdf to jpg tool

  • JPG or PNG output. JPG gives small photo-friendly files with adjustable quality. PNG is lossless, which suits text, line art and screenshots.
  • Five resolution levels. From 72 dpi for quick previews up to 288 dpi for print-sized images.
  • Choose your pages. Convert the whole document or only the ranges you type.
  • Private by design. Pages are drawn by your browser and encoded locally. Nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Which resolution should I choose?

For viewing on screen or sharing in chat, 144 dpi (High) is usually plenty. For slides or documents that may be zoomed, use 216 dpi. For printing at the original page size, use 288 dpi. Remember that doubling the resolution quadruples the number of pixels and makes files much larger.

Is there a page-size or page-count limit?

There is no fixed limit, but your browser has to hold each rendered page in memory. For very large pages the tool automatically lowers the scale so a single image stays within a safe pixel count. Long documents are processed one page at a time, so they work but take longer.

Why is the background white in JPG files?

JPG cannot store transparency, so the tool paints a white background behind every page before encoding. PNG output also starts from a white page, which matches how PDFs normally look when printed.
