Running Pace Calculator

Enter any two of distance, time and pace and the running pace calculator finds the third. It shows pace per kilometre and per mile, your speed, what a 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon would take at that pace, and a split table for each kilometre or mile.

Runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded.

How to use Running Pace Calculator

  1. Choose Find pace, Find time or Find distance, and pick kilometres or miles.
  2. Fill in the two values the mode asks for. Quick buttons set 5K, 10K, half and full marathon distances.
  3. Read the pace, speed and total on the right.
  4. Check the race predictions and the split table to plan your run.

Pace, speed and time

Pace is time per distance, such as minutes per kilometre. Speed is distance per time, such as kilometres per hour. They carry the same information. Runners usually think in pace and cyclists in speed.

  • Pace = time / distance.
  • Time = pace x distance.
  • Distance = time / pace.
  • km/h = 60 / pace in minutes per km.

Using race predictions

The prediction table multiplies your current pace by each race distance. It is a fair guide for a similar effort, but most people slow down over longer distances, so a marathon is usually run at a slower pace than a 5K.

Using splits

The split table lists elapsed time at the end of each kilometre or mile. Copy the figures onto a wristband or set watch alerts to stay on target. Rows stop at 21.1 km and at most 50 rows are shown.

Limits

All calculations happen in your browser, and nothing you type is uploaded or stored on a server. Results are estimates that assume an even pace on flat ground. Hills, heat, wind and fatigue change real times. The half marathon is taken as 21.0975 km and the marathon as 42.195 km. This is not medical or coaching advice.

Why use this running pace calculator tool

  • Three modes. Find pace from distance and time, time from distance and pace, or distance from time and pace.
  • Km and miles. See pace per km and per mile together, plus speed in km/h and mph.
  • Race predictions. See how long a 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon would take at the same pace.
  • Split table. Get elapsed time at each kilometre or mile, up to 21.1 km, to use as pacing cues.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my running pace?

Divide your total time by your distance. Running 10 km in 55 minutes gives 5 minutes 30 seconds per km. Choose Find pace here, enter the distance and time, and the calculator shows pace per kilometre and per mile and your speed.

How do I convert min per km to min per mile?

Multiply the pace per kilometre by 1.609. A 5:00 per km pace is about 8:03 per mile. This calculator shows both paces automatically, whichever unit you enter. Divide by 1.609 to go the other way, from miles back to kilometres. Both paces are shown together so you can compare them with a race pace chart.

What finish time will I get in a marathon at my pace?

Multiply your pace per kilometre by 42.195. At 5:30 per km that is about 3 hours 52 minutes. The race table shows this for you. Real marathons are rarely run at a perfectly even pace, so treat it as a guide.

Can I plan negative splits with this?

The split table assumes an even pace, so it gives a baseline. To plan a faster second half, aim for slightly slower splits early and faster later, and use the table as a reference for the average pace. You can change any value at any time and the result updates immediately, so it is easy to compare a few different options before deciding.

Is my run data uploaded?

No. Distances and times are used only in your browser to work out the result. Nothing is uploaded or saved on a server and you do not need an account. It works on your own device, so it is safe to use with private figures, and it keeps working if you go offline after the page has loaded.
