Blur & Pixelate Image

Hide sensitive parts of a picture before you share it. Draw boxes over faces, licence plates, addresses or account numbers, choose blur, pixelate or a solid black box, and download the result. Your image never leaves your device.

How to use Blur & Pixelate Image

  1. Upload a JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or BMP image.
  2. Pick Pixelate, Blur or Black box and set the strength.
  3. Click and drag (or touch and drag) over each area you want to hide. Use Undo last or Reset if you slip.
  4. Choose PNG or JPG and press Download image.

Why obscure parts of an image

Photos and screenshots often contain more than you intend to share: a neighbour’s face in the background, a licence plate, a name in a chat, an email address in a browser tab, or an order number on a receipt. Hiding those details before you post, send a bug report or sell something online is a simple privacy habit.

This tool lets you choose exactly which rectangles to cover, so the rest of the picture stays sharp and useful.

Pixelate, blur or black box

Pixelate shrinks the selected area into large coloured blocks. Blur smears the area smoothly. A black box paints the area solid black. They look different, and they are not equally safe.

If the goal is simply to make a background or a face less prominent, blur or pixelate is fine. If the goal is to stop anyone reading or recovering information, blur is the weakest choice: smooth blurs preserve a lot of structure, and tools exist that try to reconstruct text from lightly blurred or low-resolution pixelated images. A black box discards the information entirely, and a coarse pixelate keeps very little.

  • Text, numbers, addresses, signatures: use a black box, or pixelate at a high strength.
  • Faces and licence plates: strong pixelate or blur with a generous box that covers the whole feature.
  • Always cover a slightly larger area than the sensitive item.
  • Zoom into the result before you share it to check nothing is still readable.

Limits and privacy

The tool works with rectangles only, so odd-shaped areas need several overlapping boxes. Very large images can be slow to process on older phones. When you export as JPG the image is compressed again, so choose PNG if you want to avoid extra quality loss. Because the output is a fresh canvas export, embedded metadata such as GPS coordinates is not kept. Nothing is uploaded: the image is processed entirely inside your browser tab.

Why use this blur & pixelate image tool

  • Three ways to hide. Pixelate, blur or cover with a solid black box, each applied only to the areas you draw.
  • Works on phones and desktops. Mouse, touch and pen input are all supported when drawing boxes.
  • Whole-image option. Apply the current effect to the entire picture in one tap, for example to make a background placeholder.
  • Private by design. Everything happens in your browser. The edited file is a freshly drawn image, so the original metadata is not carried over.

Frequently asked questions

Is blur safe for hiding text or numbers?

Not always. A light blur keeps much of the original shape, and software can sometimes sharpen or guess what was underneath. For passwords, card numbers, addresses or ID details, use a strong pixelate or, better, a black box, which removes the pixels completely.

Does the downloaded image still contain my location or camera data?

No. The tool redraws the picture on a new canvas and exports it, which produces a file without the EXIF data (GPS position, camera model, timestamps) of the original. Your original file is not changed.

Can I undo after downloading?

The downloaded file has the effect permanently applied, so keep your original if you may need it. Inside the tool, Undo last and Reset work until you leave the page.
