How to use Salary Converter

  1. Enter your pay amount and choose whether it is hourly, daily, weekly, monthly or annual.
  2. Set your hours per week, days per week and paid weeks per year.
  3. Read the equivalent amounts for every period.
  4. Change the schedule to see how part-time or unpaid weeks change the result.

Why convert pay periods

Job offers, contracts and payslips often quote pay in different forms. A freelancer may think hourly, an employer may quote an annual salary, and a household budget runs monthly. Converting between them lets you compare a salaried job with a contract role, check whether an hourly rate really adds up to the income you need, or see what a part-time schedule is worth.

Everything depends on the working schedule. This tool asks for hours per week, days per week and paid weeks per year so you can match your own situation rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all assumption.

Formulas and worked example

Annual pay = hourly × hours per week × weeks per year. Weekly = annual ÷ weeks per year. Daily = annual ÷ (days per week × weeks per year). Monthly = annual ÷ 12. Every two weeks = annual × 2 ÷ weeks per year.

Example: 25 an hour, 40 hours a week, 5 days a week, 52 weeks. Annual = 52,000. Weekly = 1,000. Daily = 200. Monthly = 4,333.33. Every two weeks = 2,000. If you only worked 48 paid weeks, annual pay would be 25 × 40 × 48 = 48,000 instead.

Tips and limits

Use the figure that reflects what you are actually paid, then compare like with like.

  • All amounts are before tax and other deductions.
  • Overtime, bonuses, benefits and unpaid breaks are not included unless you adjust the hours.
  • A month is treated as one twelfth of a year, so months with five weeks look the same.
  • Paid holidays and leave differ by employer; compare the benefits as well as the pay.
  • This is an estimate, not financial advice. Your numbers stay in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert hourly pay to annual salary?

Annual = hourly rate × hours per week × paid weeks per year. At 25 an hour, 40 hours and 52 weeks, annual pay is 25 × 40 × 52 = 52,000.

How do I convert annual salary to hourly?

Divide the annual salary by (hours per week × paid weeks per year). 52,000 ÷ (40 × 52) = 25 an hour.

Why change the weeks per year?

If you take weeks of unpaid leave, work seasonally or are paid for fewer weeks, use the number of weeks you are actually paid. Many salaried people use 52 because paid leave is included.
