Put your strongest evidence first
With little work history, lead with Education, then Projects, then any Internships, volunteering or part-time work, then Skills. Keep the header and a short summary at the top. In the free resume builder you can reorder sections on the Design tab, so Education can sit above Experience.
A good summary for a fresher is two sentences: what you studied or trained in, and the kind of role you want, with one concrete strength. For example: “Computer science graduate with hands-on experience building web apps in React and Node.js. Looking for a junior developer role.”
Turn projects and coursework into achievements
Treat a project like a job: name it, give the dates and describe what you did and what resulted.
- Built a budgeting web app used by 40 classmates, using React and Firebase.
- Led a team of 4 in a semester project; delivered on time and scored 92%.
- Organised a college event for 300 attendees and raised funds of 25,000.
- Analysed 10,000 rows of sales data in Excel and presented three recommendations.
What counts as experience
Internships, freelance work, part-time jobs, volunteering, student societies, hackathons, open-source contributions, tutoring and leading a club are all legitimate. Describe the responsibility and the result, not just the title. Even a retail or café job shows reliability, customer handling and working under pressure, which employers value.
Skills and certifications
List real, specific skills: tools, languages, software and methods you can discuss in an interview. Add recent relevant certificates or online courses with the provider and date. Avoid rating yourself with bars or stars, because they say little and do not parse in applicant tracking systems.
What to leave out
Skip a long objective statement, school-level details once you have a degree, hobbies that do not relate to the job, and personal details such as age, religion or marital status unless a posting in your country specifically asks. Keep it to one page and proofread it twice; spelling mistakes stand out more on a short resume.
Frequently asked questions
Should a fresher resume be one page?
Yes. One page is the norm for candidates with under about five years of experience.
Should I include my GPA or marks?
Include it if it is strong or the employer asks for it, using the same scale as your institution. If it is weak, you can leave it out and let projects carry the resume.
Can I upload an old resume and just change the template?
Yes. In the free resume builder, choose your existing PDF or Word file and the form is filled in for you, then pick any of the 20 templates.
