About Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day is a day to honour mothers, grandmothers and all mother figures. In the United States, Canada, India, Australia and many other countries it is held on the second Sunday of May, a custom that grew from campaigns by Anna Jarvis in the early twentieth century and became an official US holiday in 1914. Other countries observe it on different dates: the United Kingdom celebrates Mothering Sunday in March, and some countries mark it in spring or on other days of meaning.
People give cards, flowers, handmade gifts and meals, call or visit their mothers, and spend time together. It is also a day to remember mothers who are no longer with us.
